Infrared Picture Panels For Homes

There’s lots to think about when you’re choosing a heating system for your home. First you have to make your choice between many different types of heating technology. Then you have to find a brand you trust and a style which looks good in your interiors. Hopefully by this point you’ll have chosen our far infrared heating panels! But then you’ll find that every one of our infrared panel ranges is available in many different sizes and wattages. Which to choose? How do you know which sizes you need for your rooms?

That’s where our infrared heating calculator comes in. All you have to do is select the type of property you live in and enter the dimensions of your room. The calculator will then work out the total wattage you’ll need from your heating panels in order to heat that room efficiently and comfortably. Here are a few examples:

Bedroom in a New Build

Louise is putting the finishing touches to her newly built home and decides to use infrared panels to heat throughout the house. Any house that has been built after 1980 and has good insulation, double glazed windows, cavity walls and loft insulation, would be classed as a “New Build” for the purposes of our calculator. Louise estimates that the bedroom is 5 metres wide, 5 metres long and 3 metres tall. The infrared room calculator calculates that Louise will need a total wattage of 1500w.

Our largest infrared panel is only 1200w so Louise chooses multiple panels to heat her room. She decides to purchase two 750w infrared panels which add up to the required total of 1500w. To add a little personality to her bedroom she chooses Herschel picture panels, customised with two of her favourite holiday snaps from her trip to Sicily.

Bathroom in a Modern House

Afiq wants an alternative heating solution for the bathroom in his home in the suburbs. The house was built in 1972, has good insulation and all the windows have double glazing, so we would class it as a modern house. Afiq measures the bathroom as 2.5m tall, 3m long and 2m wide. The infrared calculator recommends a wattage of just 375w to heat this small room.

Afiq decides to choose a Herschel infrared mirror panel, an excellent multi-purpose choice great for saving space in a bathroom. He deliberates between a 300w or 400w mirror panel but our heating advisors recommend he chooses the larger of the two sizes. It is always better to over-specify rather than under-specify your heating. Under-specifying forces your heaters to work harder and less efficiently to heat the space, and you may not be able to heat your rooms to the level you desire. Over-specifying simply means that your heaters will not have to work so hard to keep temperatures comfortable – heating your house much more efficiently.

Living Room in Old House

Sue owns a detached Victorian home in the countryside. The house was built before 1930, has poor wall insulation, no loft insulation and single glazed windows so it qualifies as an “Old House” on our calculator. Sue wants to heat her high-ceilinged living room with infrared panels. The living room is an “L” shape, so she has to calculate each half of the room separately and add the totals together to work out the wattage needed. The smaller half of the room is 2m wide, 3.5m long and 3.5m tall. This requires a wattage of 735w. The large half of the room is 2.5m wide, 4m long and 3.5m tall. This requires a wattage of 1050w. Altogether, Sue’s Victorian sitting room requires a wattage of 1785w.

Sue chooses our plain white Prestyl infrared heating panels because they blend discretely into her plastered walls and don’t distract from the period features in her living room. She chooses a 1100w panel to fit above the fireplace on the long wall and a 750w panel to mount vertically in the alcove. Altogether these panels add up to 1850w – more than enough wattage to comfortably heat Sue’s living room.
