Energy efficient infrared heating has gotten a lot of attention in the last year or so. It’s clean, green and can help you massively cut down on your energy usage when used in the right way. But it’s still a relatively new technology and, like electric radiators and other new forms of electric heating, a lot of people are naturally curious about it. Here are answers to some of the most common questions we get asked at Infrared Heaters Direct. Thinking of investing in new energy saving heating technology? Read on!

Do I need an electrician to install my new infrared heating panels?

That all depends on how you choose to fit them. All of our infrared heating panels are delivered complete with everything you need to fit them and start using them right away – they even have a standard 3-pin plug on the end of the power cord so you can literally plug in and go. A lot of people use their infrared heating panels in this way, and simply mount the panel over or near the socket to hide the wire and maintain the nice look and feel.

However, if you want to get the absolute most out of your infrared heating panels in terms of how they look, you might want to consider hardwiring them into your existing circuitry. This will require the services of an electrician, but the result is that you’ll have no wires or plug sockets to worry about – perfect for those who want to hang their panels as paintings or use them as mirrors.

You don’t have to decide right away though. You might decide to simply plug in the panels initially, and then when you realise how well they work and are completely sold on their benefits, you can hardwire them in.

How does infrared work? Isn’t it too hot, like when you sit under a patio heater?

This is a common misconception. When we say ‘infrared’ in the home, we’re actually refering to ‘far infrared’ which is much more subtle and effective way of heating your house. Infrared heaters don’t heat the air like a conventional radiator – there’s no convection or blowing of air, no moving parts and no noise.  Infrared panels heat the objects in the room, working in exactly the same way as our sun when it’s rays beat down and warm the ground. The objects in the room – your furniture, walls and even you and your family – will retain this heat and release it slowly and naturally, and you won’t even feel it. Because of this, infrared heating panels deliver some of the most even and consistent heat you could hope to get from a home heating system.

Do they require a lot of wall space? Won’t they look bad?

Far from looking bad, infrared heating panels can actually add to the aesthetic of your home. The one in the bathroom can be fashioned into a mirror, the ones is your living room can be made to look like paintings or blown up family photos, or you might even decide to simply paint patterns or colours on them so they blend in with the rest of the room.

The possiblities with infrared heating panels are pretty endless, and once they’re a part of your life and they’re working in the background to keep you and your family nice and warm, you won’t even realise they’re there.
