Commercial spaces

I think it’s fair to say that winter has well and truly arrived. Gritting machines are out in force, the pavements shimmer with thin layers of frost, and venturing outside into the biting cold is the last thing on anyone’s mind. For some of us, working outside, or partially outside, is unavoidable. Whether you’re a mid-week tinkerer, full-time mechanic, or classic car enthusiast, working in a garage throughout the winter can be a real test of endurance. Luckily for you, there is a solution: a way to beat the winter chills. Leave your hat and gloves behind, forget stuffing your overalls with insulation, and instead invest in an infrared garage heater – a subtle, hassle-free way to keep warm at work this winter.

Industrial spaces: commercial garages & workshops

Commercial garages can be frosty places to work – with constantly opening doors and roller shutters exposing the inside to harsh winter weather. For such demanding work conditions, you need a garage heater with enough power to cut through the icy breeze and effectively warm the entire forecourt. At Infrared Heaters Direct, we have something that’s sure to keep the chills at bay…

The Herschel Colorado

One of our newest products, the Herschel Colorado is a sophisticated infrared heater that uses medium wave infrared to provide comfortable heat. Specifically designed for sheltered outdoor locations, the Colorado uses a hardwearing carbon heating element that provides 10,000+ hours of heat, perfect for extended periods of time in front of an open roller blind with your toolbox. If you need to warm up an industrial workshop, the Colorado is the ideal infrared heater for you.

Herschel ColoradoUsing medium wave infrared, the Colorado provides the instant heat of quartz heaters – the type of infrared you may have encountered outside bars or restaurants, recognisable by their orange glow – with the soothing warmth of ceramic heaters. The best of both worlds, medium wave infrared is both subtle and strong – the perfect type of heat to cut through winter winds and provide invigorating warmth.

The Colorado’s heat output can be adjusted in 25% increments, allowing you to choose a softer background heat for mild winter days, or a more intense heat for when the Arctic winds really pick up. Suitable for outdoor use as much as indoor use, the Colorado maintains its heat when exposed to the weather, making it the ideal choice for warehouses, garage forecourts, and loading bays.

The Colorado’s heat coverage is versatile too and can be adjusted to heat whatever space it’s installed in. For indoor use, the Colorado can cover an area of 18m² – perfect for lofty workshop interiors. For outdoor use, the Colorado can cover a space of 12m² – ideal for loading bay entrances or uncovered areas. For large commercial spaces, indoor or outdoor, the Herschel Colorado is the ideal infrared heater – providing strong and comfortable heat all winter long.

Domestic spaces: personal garages & workshops

Typically lacking the cosy level of insulation of our homes, our garages and workshops can often be neglected, frost-bound spaces. Which is fine if you simply pop in and out of your garage from time to time. But for those of you who spend a lot of time in there, it might be time to consider your options and transform a chilly workplace into a toasty retreat.

The Herschel Aspect XL2

For spaces that require subtle heating, a ceramic infrared heater is the ideal choice. Ceramic infrared heaters provide a softer heat that is easily absorbed into our bodies, creating a deep and natural feeling of warmth. Ceramic heaters, as with all infrared, heat objects as well as people – removing the likelihood of damp or rust build up. So, if you’re a classic car owner, or simply like to tinker in your garage, a ceramic heater is a sensible infrared option this winter.

The Herschel Aspect XL2 is a powerful 1300w ceramic heater capable of heating an area of 9m² – ample room for the average sized garage. Finished in a slim, stainless steel housing, the Aspect XL2 is the perfect choice for domestic garages where bulkier products might take up too much room.

Herschel Aspect XLUsing a ceramic heating element, the XL2 produces far infrared heat – a softer and less intense type of infrared that’s comfortable to work under for long periods of time. If you’re a garage dweller, whether through profession or hobby, the XL2 will provide a strong and natural-feeling heat that will keep you warm throughout the day – fending off the harsh winter cold as it creeps into your garage. The Aspect XL2 is suitable for use outdoors too, ideal for garages that open out onto the driveway. There’s no need to brave the elements though, the 1300w output of the XL2 is more than enough to provide effective heat, whatever the winter weather throws at you. Suitable for wall-mounting, when installing your XL2 we’d always recommend you choose a location unobstructed by shelving, as infrared heaters require a direct line of sight to heat a room.

Controlling your infrared garage heaters

Infrared heaters are best used with additional thermostats or controllers for comprehensive heater control. Using an additional controller allows you to create a heating schedule, set and control temperatures, and turn the heaters on or off.

Herschel iQ systemFor indoor use, Herschel infrared heaters can be controlled with the Herschel iQ system. The Herschel iQ system consists of an R1 receiver, which hardwires into your product; a T1 Thermostat, which controls this receiver; and the WH1 Central Controller, which takes charge of several T1 thermostats for heater control across larger areas.

For single room use, the T1 thermostat is ideal – allowing you to adjust temperatures, create a heating schedule, and control an unlimited amount of Herschel products with ease. If you spend time in a single garage, the T1 thermostat is more than enough to accurately control your heating.

For multi-room use, the WH1 Central Controller is the best choice. The WH1 supports heater zoning – enabling you to take command of several Herschel products across several different areas. For commercial garages, this would be the better option as the WH1 can control up to 6 different zones and the heaters within those zones from one central point.

For outdoor use, covered or uncovered, the Herschel Colorado can be purchased with an optional remote to cycle through the heat levels and to turn the device on or off. The Aspect XL2 however, doesn’t come with integrated controls. This is because the heater is so durable that it may outlive the electrical components used to control it. So, you’d be forever uninstalling the heater and wiring new controllers. To get around this, the XL2 can be controlled via a simple push-button timer that turns the heater on or off after a certain amount of time, perfect for use outside private or commercial garages.

So, for the seasoned tinkerer as much as the professional mechanic, a dedicated garage heater can lessen the burden of working throughout the winter – provide effective and controllable heating when you need it most. From medium wave to ceramic infrared heaters, at Infrared Heaters Direct, we have the ideal infrared product for you.
