You only need basic DIY knowledge to install your Herschel Select XL mirror panels. When wall-mounting your panels, the wall bracket for the Select XL functions as a template for you to drill the necessary holes into the wall. After you have done this, simply screw this bracket to the wall and you’re ready to hang your new panel. Herschel’s new Easyfix design makes fitting your panels easy. Four mounting fixings are located on the rear of your panel – these slot into place onto the mounting bracket and can be secured by moving your panel to the right, down, and then to the right again.
When it comes to connecting your panels to the mains, you can either fit a plug on the end of the cable – the best option if you want to be able to move the panels later – or have them hardwired by a professional electrician. Hardwiring into the mains is not a DIY job. If you’re thinking of installing your glass panel in a bathroom, you will need to have it hardwired by a qualified electrician in an appropriate location. These panels are IP45 rated, which means they are protected against jets of water. Always defer to the manufacturer’s guidelines about the bathroom suitability of any product.
We always recommend installing your panels with thermostatic controls. A thermostat will control the heat output of your panel, ensuring your rooms stay at the right temperature without wasting energy. A thermostat with programming functionality will also allow you to schedule your heating, helping you save energy by heating only occupied rooms. The Herschel iQ system is a great choice for Inspire panels, giving you thermostat control from one central location. Herschel iQ receivers must be hardwired, however alternative plug-in controllers are available.
This panel has a heat reach of approximately 2.5 – 3m.
Herschel Select XL Infrared Heating Panels come with a 5 Year Manufacturer’s Guarantee.

What You Will Need
Heat your home in style with the dual-purpose Herschel Select XL mirror panel. Providing gentle infrared heat, the Select XL mirror panel is an invisible heat source that operates as a reflective mirrored surface. This 350w mirror panel is perfect for small bathrooms, corridors, or bedrooms where heat is required but space is limited.
The Select XL collection is Herschel’s affordable infrared panel range, manufactured with a high-quality frameless design and minimalist aesthetic. Herschel’s Select XL mirror panels are ingeniously camouflaged as household mirrors that provide energy-efficient radiant heat while functioning as a decorative room feature. The Select XL mirror panel range includes three different sizes of panel – all of which are ideal for home or commercial use.
Herschel Select XL mirror panels are ideal for use in bathrooms as the heated glass surface of the panel acts as a demister, ensuring the glass is always clear for use, despite condensation. In moisture ridden bathrooms, the radiant heat of a Select XL mirror panel can reduce dampness and stop water vapour from settling on your walls. Far infrared, the type of infrared used by the Select XL, is easily absorbed by walls and brickwork. These warmed surfaces then reradiate heat back into the room, making it difficult for moisture to settle and dampness to take hold.
If you wish to install your Select XL mirror panel in a bathroom, or want a wire-free finish, you must obtain the services of a qualified electrician to have them hardwired. However, if you are planning on using your panel elsewhere in the home, you can attach a plug on the end of the cable and DIY install with ease. Herschel Select XL mirror panels can reach temperatures between 85 – 95 °C and it is recommended that you install your mirror panel out of direct reach of young children or vulnerable adults.
Thermostats & Controllers
Herschel Select XL mirror panels do not come with in-built controls. This is to protect the lifespan of the products, which will usually extend for decades, well beyond the 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. Rugged and durable, with no moving parts, your Herschel Select XL mirror panel should outlive any digital components. It’s for this reason that we sell thermostats, timers and programmers separately. Your controllers wire in separately, and you can replace them as many times as you want without damaging the panels. This also gives you the freedom to choose exactly how you want to control your panels – collectively or individually, automatically or manually, remotely or directly.
We always recommend installing your panels with a programmable thermostat. Thermostats monitor and maintain temperatures, whilst programmers allow you to set each panel to a heating schedule with different temperatures at different times of the day. This will drastically reduce your energy usage, and ensures your rooms are comfortable whenever you need them. Infrared panels with thermostatic controls can be up to 60% more efficient than traditional convection heating systems.
Benefits of Far Infrared
Infrared panels give off most of their heat as far infrared radiation. This is a gentle, natural form of heat which travels at a similar wavelength to the heat given off by our bodies. Far infrared feels gentle but is easily absorbed by our bodies, making it one of the most efficient ways to heat homes and offices. Unlike outdoor infrared products which give off visible light and a more intense form of infrared heat, far infrared remains comfortable for hours on end – a luxurious heating solution that’s ideal for all your main living spaces. Other uses for far infrared include spas, yoga studios and incubators for babies.
Infrared heating is growing in popularity all the time as home and business owners recognise the unique benefits and unparalleled energy efficiency offered by these versatile panels. Radiant heat warms people, objects and surfaces directly, minimising the heat loss through draughts and the circulation of air. Radiant heat allows you to zone your heating, and it can also reduce damp and prevent the circulation of dust – the ideal heating solution for allergy sufferers. The panels are durable, require no maintenance and are the natural choice to pair with solar panels for 100% carbon free heating.
