Infrared Heating for your Conservatory

Infrared Heating for your Conservatory

Heating your conservatory can be a difficult task, near-to impossible with conventional gas heating system due to problems such as extending your heating system into your conservatory or installing radiators. Our electric radiators give you an easy-install solution that triumphs over ordinary central heating by allowing you to control the heating in your conservatory separate from the rest of your house. However, there is one drawback, which can be exposed if your conservatory is poorly insulated. A room almost completely comprised of glass will suffer from a lot of heat leaking out, due to poor thermal properties of glass. This causes your electric heaters and radiators to work much harder in order to top up lost heat and maintain comfort temperature.

This problem is the eternal challenge faced by convection heating systems. Conventional heaters and convection radiators, whether gas or electric, heat rooms by warming the air. Warm air constantly circulates around the room, moving to colder spaces. Because heat travels upwards, you may find that after turning your radiator or heater on, your feet are the last part of your body to get warm. Convection heaters must provide enough heat to make the entire room warm, so that the warm air can in turn heat the room’s occupants. In a poorly insulated room, the heater will have to work really hard to maintain the room’s temperature, because a lot of it will simply leak out. Unless you choose to insulate your conservatory and opt for convection heaters, there is an easy heating solution.

Infrared heating is a relatively new but very effective way of heating difficult spaces such as conservatories. Infrared heaters heat in a very different way to conventional convection heaters and radiators; they heat almost entirely by radiation – the same way that the sun warms the Earth. Infrared heaters heat people and objects directly, regardless of the temperature of the air. This way no heat is lost through draughts and the circulation of air; instead, our bodies and the fabric of the room absorb and re-radiate the heat. This makes infrared heaters ideal for outdoor, draughty or poorly-insulated paces – including conservatories.

Our range of infrared panel heaters are ideal for energy-efficient conservatory heating. All the panels in our Herschel Infrared range can be can be purchased with feet, perfect for conservatories where space is limited.
